A black-tie evening at The Fullerton

The Story

Ethan is a fund manager. Clara is a doctor at Mount Elizabeth. They were the kind of clients who had read every page of our website before our first call, and arrived to our coffee meeting with a printed mood-board, a Spotify playlist, and a one-page document explaining what they didn't want.

What they didn't want was anything that would look dated in twenty years. No string lights. No flatlays. No bridesmaid robes. Their families had been in Singapore for four generations and they wanted a wedding that would feel of the city rather than imported from a Pinterest board. We talked about Cartier Bresson, the Anglo-Chinese Singapore of the 1950s, and Sally Mann's family work. Two months later they sent us a deposit.

"When the rain came, Mei Lin didn't ask us to move. She just smiled and kept shooting. Those are the photographs we love most."

The day itself ran with the precision of a watch movement. Hair and makeup at 11. Civil ceremony at the registry at 3. Portraits along the Fullerton's colonnade at 5. Cocktails at 6.30. Then, at exactly 7.14pm, the November sky opened and rain came down in sheets for forty minutes. Guests crowded onto the covered terrace and the band kept playing through the noise.

Most of our favourite photographs from the day are from that rain — Clara holding her train above her ankles, Ethan's mother laughing at a waiter who slipped, the small unguarded faces of children watching the lightning from the window. We worked through the storm without a single piece of gear being lost, then carried on with the reception when the rain stopped at 8.
